Though chemotherapy and radiation rid the patient of cancer, they can leave the body reeling from the effects. Very little research exists on cancer survivorship, but Mimi Lamantia, a graduate of The Ohio State University’s school of dance, set out to change that – backward and in dancing shoes.

Nichole Frederick, Systems Librarian, is the most recent addition to the OhioLINK team. Nichole received her degree from Ohio State, and her Masters of Library Information Sciences from Kent State. Before joining OhioLINK, Nichole worked for the Ohio State University libraries.

OhioLINK recently spoke with Nichole about her professional responsibilities as well as her favorite books, her many hobbies and how she enjoys spending her free time.

After a competitive application and review process, OhioLINK is pleased to announce the grant recipients of OhioLINK’s first research awards. The two grant recipient groups are Wright State University’s Shu Schiller, Ph.D., and Bowling Green State University’s Andrea Boehme and Katie Mihaly.

The OhioLINK research awards support research projects by members to answer questions or investigate topics of direct interest to OhioLINK and its members.

It sounds like something out of the X-Men movies: lose a body part, print a new one. But while we have the technology to 3D-print prosthetics, researchers still have to fine tune the details.

Columbus, Ohio (June 7, 2017) – OhioLINK has selected seven member librarians, faculty, and staff members to become the OhioLINK Open Textbook Network (OTN) System Leaders. As system leaders, they will coordinate OhioLINK OTN awareness and advocacy initiatives regarding open educational resources and open textbooks as part of OhioLINK/Ohio Department of Higher Education affordable learning initiatives for higher education.

Each year, lung cancer kills more men and women worldwide than any other cancer, accounting for about 160,000 deaths in the U.S. alone each year. Rose Zolondek is doing something about it by attacking the disease at its roots. And OhioLINK's vast Electronic Journal Center is playing a major role in Zolondek's research.

After completing her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The University of Akron, Alexa Fox started her doctoral program at the University of Memphis in Tennessee, where she noticed that she was not always able to access articles and journals as easily as she could through OhioLINK when doing academic research at Akron. While many who love OhioLINK testify to peers in other states that they don’t know what they’re missing, Fox knows firsthand what it’s like to miss out.

Most would agree that having a second set of eyes review a paper or article is a useful, and crucial, step in the writing process. Taking a different view, especially one sharpened by more experience, others can find mistakes we missed, correct awkward phrases and make suggestions for clarity.
