How to Bookmark an E-Journal Article

This section describes how to select the appropriate URL to use to link directly to an article. Faculty can post links on course Web pages for direct access to assigned online articles. Researchers can bookmark online articles in their browsers for repeated access.

Electronic Journal Center

Articles from the OhioLINK Electronic Journal Center have URLs that start "journals.ohiolink.edu". The page that contains an article citation and abstract can be bookmarked. Example:

http://journals.ohiolink.edu/ejc/article.cgi?issn=10823301&issue=v34i0002&article=169_srarstcfpa

You may post the EJC URL on any Web page. OhioLINK software limits access to authorized users. If the user is on campus, his IP address permits access. If the user is off campus, the system will prompt the user to log in.

EBSCO Databases

Articles from EBSCO databases have URLs that start "search.ebscohost.com". The page that contains an article citation and abstract carries a line labeled Persistent link to this record which can be copied and pasted. To capture links for several articles, add the articles to a Folder, then E-mail or Save from the folder page.

Example URL for on-campus access:

http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=a9h&AN=24476964&site=ehost-live

For access from off-campus, the URL needs to include a "proxy" to permit logging in for access to the article. For information about off-campus access at your location, check with librarians at your library.

Example using an institutional proxy:

http://proxy.lib.ohio-state.edu/login?url=http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=a9h&AN=24476964&site=ehost-live

Example using OhioLINK proxy (first prompts for institution, name, and ID number):

http://proxy.ohiolink.edu:9099/login?url=http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=a9h&AN=24476964&site=ehost-live
