OhioLINK announces it has entered into a 3-year “read & publish” agreement with Cambridge University Press. Students, faculty, and staff at OhioLINK institutions that participate in its Electronic Journal Center (EJC) will have access to current research from all Cambridge University Press journals. Authors at member institutions will be able to publish an unlimited number of open-access articles in eligible Cambridge journals. This is the first read & publish deal OhioLINK has implemented at a consortial level to offer open access publishing benefits to its member institutions.
“We are excited to more than double the number of Cambridge journal titles available online through our Electronic Journal Center, while also being able to offer authors uncapped, open-access publishing at no additional cost to our members,” said OhioLINK Executive Director Amy Pawlowski.
Kellie O’Rourke, Head of Library Sales, Americas, for Cambridge University Press said, “It is great to expand our journals partnership with OhioLINK institutions, and implement a sustainable way for every member to publish research open access. We are delighted that this consortium has chosen to work with us to deliver a first transformative agreement at scale across the state of Ohio, and that we can provide expanded value to the range of diverse institutions and organizations who will participate.”
OhioLINK consortium members include 10 very high and high research activity institutions, as well many private, public, and 2-year colleges.
From January 1, 2022 through December 31, 2024, eligible members will have access to more than 400 journals published by Cambridge University Press, including any new journals acquired by Cambridge during the contract period. OhioLINK also will have permanent online access to the current year for subscribed titles, as well as temporary access to select backfile issues during the contract.
In addition, the new agreement gives authors at OhioLINK member institutions the opportunity to choose open access at no additional cost when publishing research articles in any of the more than 300 Cambridge University Press gold and hybrid journals. There is no limit to the number of open access articles that can be published under the agreement.
Open access publishing is considered to be a more equitable approach to academic content because research is made available regardless of an institution’s or author’s ability to pay for access. The immediate availability of open access research results in more citations for authors and broader dissemination of cutting-edge scholarship.
