Dear OhioLINK Members,

As we celebrate National Library Week, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering dedication to serving our communities. Your efforts make a significant impact, and I am truly appreciative of everything you do.

Your commitment to providing exceptional service is evident in the countless ways you support Ohio's academic community. I want to extend a special thank you for all the additional hard work you've been putting into the LSP migration. Your diligence and perseverance during this transition have been remarkable, and your efforts have not gone unnoticed.

Thank you for your dedication and for fostering a strong community that supports each other as well as our patrons. I am proud to work with such an incredible community.

Tech Freeze began March 28; no changes in Sierra through Apr 25

We’ve reached a major milestone! Tech Freeze began on March 28. No changes in Sierra through April 25. Ex Libris begins to pull library data for the final time on March 31. Check the Technical Freeze page for dates and impacts. More info below. If you have specific questions, ask your Project Lead.

Alma Primo office hours on Weds.

OhioLINK will be holding open Alma Primo office hours each Wednesday in April from 11AM-12PM. The Webex link will not change for the five dates in April. Registration is not required, and people may join/leave at any point. We’ll spend the hour answering questions; there will not be a set presentation. The calls will not be recorded. Each office hours date will be in the LSP Calendar and reminders for upcoming dates will be in the LSP Update section of Weekly Updates. Dates and topics include:

  • April 9: Fulfillment and general topics (configuration, searching, sets and jobs, scheduled jobs, letters, analytics)
  • April 16: General topics
  • April 23: Acquisitions (funds, ledgers, vendors, order workflow, physical receiving, invoicing) and cataloging (MDE functions, search external resources, OCLC integration profile, publishing profiles, import profiles)
  • April 30: E-resources and Primo VE (activating electronic resources, managing electronic resources, working with Primo VE search profiles, making changes to Primo VE views, updating Primo VE labels, working with Primo VE interoperability tools)

For faculty: Apply by April 18 for OhioLINK Affordable Learning Course Redesign Grants 

Are you interested learning more about reducing your students’ textbook costs and teaching with open resources? Apply by April 18 for OhioLINK’s Spring 2025 OER Course Redesign Grants. Instructors will receive a stipend for a customized review of their syllabus with an Open Educational Resources (OER)-specialist librarian and attend an online workshop. Learn more about the opportunity to teach with OER. E-Resource Management Working Group open discussion, Apr 21, 2PM

The Electronic Resource Management LSP Working Group invites those who work directly with electronic resources, as well as any other interested library staff, to join us for another open discussion on April 21 at 2-3pm about the migration to Alma and what it means for e-resources both within the consortium and on your campus. Bring your questions and plans for e-resources activation and P2E form completion. Topics may include SUSHI setup, maintaining e-resources in Alma, usage statistics, and activating collections in Alma. Please feel free to submit questions or topics for discussion in advance. Changes to OA publishing in Wiley fully open access journals

Wiley is changing its processes for applying for APC coverage in its fully open access journals on May 17. Hybrid journals are not affected. With this change, requests for APC coverage made at submission are provisional until allocation availability and institutional affiliation are reconfirmed following acceptance for publication. More information is available on Ostaff for librarians and for authors (no Ostaff account needed). Wiley is also offering webinars, described below.

INN-Reach print lending pauses May 23

As part of our shift from INN-Reach to Rapido for print lending, users will not be able to place new requests through the Central Catalog or the SearchOhio catalog starting May 23 at 5pm. Lending will resume with other OhioLINK libraries as we go live on Alma. Lending with SearchOhio libraries will resume in fall 2025. Users with currently checked out materials will not be able to renew. OhioLINK and SearchOhio will place messages on catalog search pages on April 14. For librarian administrators: Using EBSCO Experience Manager (EEM), April 8, 11:00 AM

Register here to learn about options in the EBSCO Configuration module to customize EBSCOhost and other profiles. We will also discuss additional modules in EEM to include authentication, the Ill builder, and the URL & Search box builder. Administrators should have access to EBSCO Experience Manager and preview access to EBSCOhost. This training will be recorded.

Springer Nature open access author workshop, Apr 9, 10AM

[This session is for open access approval managers, OhioLINK librarians, and authors.] Please join OhioLINK’s open access team and Springer Nature editors for Springer Nature’s author workshop on April 9th at 10:00-11:00AM via Webex. No registration needed. OhioLINK’s team will go over the process for how to submit an article to be covered by OhioLINK’s agreement. The Springer editorial team will review the benefits of open access publishing, while utilizing the 2024 publishing data to identify discipline challenges and opportunities. LJ webinar: Ensuring Fair Access to Resources While Navigating Budget Challenges, Apr 9, 2PM

Please register to join Library Journal and Clarivate for a panel discussion with Amy Pawlowski, OhioLINK “alum” Beau Case, now Inaugural Dean of University Libraries, University of Central Florida, and Migell Acosta, Library Director of San Diego County on Wednesday, April 9, 2:00-3:00 PM. They will explore how innovative resource sharing solutions like Rapido and Rapido Consortial Borrowing are breaking down barriers and creating more equitable access to knowledge across library communities while preserving local autonomy and workflows.

Get to know the new EBSCOhost, April 10, 10AM

Register here for a review of the new EBSCOhost user experience on April 10, 10:00-11:00AM. EBSCO will cover basic and advanced searching, improvements in accessibility, full text viewing, sharing and citation tools, and the new My Dashboard options. Questions answered throughout the session. Attendees should have access to their version of the new EBSCOhost either live or in preview. This training will be recorded.
